Collaborative Research Centers
In Collaborative Research Centers, scientists from a broad range of disciplines join forces to research complex topics in fundamental research from an integrative, interdisciplinary perspective. There is a constant exchange of data, experience, materials, and,not least, of scientific staff, which guarantees a close, interdisciplinary collaboration between the involved research institutions.

The management board is set up with Prof. Wolfgang Bleck (Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy, RWTH Aachen University) as the speaker of the SFB and with Prof. Dierk Raabe (MPIE) as the deputy speaker.
Precision by controlling melt
On October 1, 2014, a new SFB or collaborative research centre entitled ”Precision manufacturing by controlling melt dynamics and solidification in production rocesses” was launched at RWTH Aachen University. As the main project partner, the IKV will play a key role in this major strategic project, looking after three sub-projects. The overall project has a potential duration of 12 years.
