Industrial Research Clusters
AMAP
In the area of the material technology of non-ferrous metals and their production as well as their processing in the past two years a group of ten industry companies and four university institutes of RWTH Aachen has set up this Open Innovation Research Cluster. At first the cooperation concentrates on materials on the basis of aluminium.
Target of the Research Cluster AMAP (Advanced Metals and Processes) is research, development, training and further education in the fields of metal production, the processing of metals and the manufacturing of products from metals and metallic materials. The cluster pursues the evolutionary idea of joint research at one location, across industry and institutes. This approach will be implemented by AMAP at the site of Aachen.

Multidisciplinary research and development for innovative solutions
In the faculties for construction engineering, mechanical engineering, mining, metallurgical engineering and geological science of the Rhenish-Westphalian Technichal University, there are powerful institutes, which deal with steel research and application. The research tasks and result expectations of industrial partners demand an increasing multidisciplinary cooperation above the special fields. Furthermore, a coherent regarding of manufacturing, treatment and appliction of materials with a direct practice referance is necessary for the teaching. Therfore, the following institutes merged to the non commercial society called "Zentrum Metallische Bauweisen (zmb) e.V.".
