I have no pre-study internship. What can I do to enroll?

In case you want to enroll in a course of study that requires an obligatory pre-study internship, which you can't prove, you don't automatically lose your place at RWTH University.

Make sure to contact the  Academic Student Advisory.

Do I have to make a pre-study internship if I have already completed an apprenticeship?

If you completed an apprenticeship in a sector similar to your course of study, we accept this instead of a pre-study internship.

Make sure to contact your Academic Student Advisory to ask whether you need or don't need to make an internship and bring documents that prove the apprenticeship and/or the Academic student Advisory's decision to enroll.

Do I have to make an obligatory internship if I have already completed an apprenticeship?

In some cases a completed apprenticeship in a sector similar to your studies can be accepted instead of an obligatory internship in a company during your studies. Please contact the Academic Student Advisory to ask whether your apprenticeship can be accepted.

How can I get credit points after I completed my internship?

It depents on your individual course of study what topics your internship must contain and how it's duration has to be to get credits for it. To find out the details about your internship you should check your Examination regulations. The sections Mentoring or your Academic Student Advisory will help you with your questions concerning internships.

Moreover it's obligatory to write a report about your work as an intern after your completed your internship to gain credit points for your study process.

How to write a report about my internship?

To receive credit points for your completed obligatory internship you have to write a report about it.

Please, contact the Student Advisory in order to get information on the formal requirements.

Is there a chance to do an internship on voluntary basis?

Beside required internship you are also allowed to decide for a voluntary internship during your studies. Voluntary internships can't be used to gain credit points for your study process but are a chance to get into contact with companies and gain first work experience. If you are interested in a voluntary internship you can contact the section's Mentoring with your questions.

Is it possible to go abroad for an obligatory or voluntary internship?

Of course there is a chance to do an internship on obligatory or voluntary basis abroad to combine first work experience with experience abroad. If you are interested in an internship abroad, we suggest you start planning your internship and stay very early. The section MuW provides help and information concerining your stay abroad within its Advosiry for Exchange Students.

How to avoid a longer duration of study because of an internship?

You don't have to be discouraged by the fact that the duration of an internship could increase your years of study. You can apply for an leave of absence during the time of your internship. If you are planning to file an application for a leave of absence at RWTH University you should get informed very early about the different deadlines.
