Directions to the Institute

Whether by car, train or plane, getting to Aachen is easy. It is located just off of several major European highways (Autobahn). There are excellent train connections to Aachen from all directions. If you are arriving by plane to the nearby airports of Düsseldorf or Cologne (Köln), there are convenient train connections, or if you decided to fly to Maastricht-Aachen, Bruxelles, Paris or Frankfurt, you will find that Aachen can be as close as an hour away.

Because Aachen is a historic town on the German border with two other countries, it's name varies from country to country. The Dutch word for Aachen is "Aken", while the French call it "Aix la Chapelle".

Arriving by train:

Aachen is well connected by train from all directions. Take the train to Aachen West, which is about a 2 minute walk from the IEHK. Alternatively, take the train to Aachen central station (Hauptbahnhof ) and take a taxi which will bring you in 10 minutes to the Institute. Aachen is about 3 hours from Paris, 2 hours from Frankfurt, and 1 hour from Cologne, Düsseldorf, or Brussels. Direct connections are available from either Cologne, Düsseldorf, Brussels, or Paris main train stations.

Arriving by plane:

Nearby airports include Cologne and Düsseldorf, which are both about 1 hour away from Aachen by either train or car. Cologne and Düsseldorf Airports are conveniently connected to the railway system. Frankfurt Airport is about 2 hours away by train, with easy connections. Bruxelles Airport is about 1 hour from Aachen by train. Maastricht Airport (commuter flights only) is about 40 minutes by car from Aachen.
